Out There Radio – Episode 43: Aleister Crowley, Thelema, and the O.T.O.

In this episode, we interview John Crow, host of Thelema Coast to Coast, a podcast “dedicated to the exploration of Thelema, Aleister Crowley, The New Aeon, ceremonial magick and the occult. ” John gives us a primer on Crowley and Thelema, and tells us about his experiences with the OTO.  This episode is a great starting point for people who are interested in modern occult orders, 19th century English esoteric movements, or anyone who wonders what “Mr. Crowley” was all about.

  • terminology that had originated with the occultist Madame Blavatsky in the 19th century. Some modern Wiccans however have stopped using the white-black magic and left-right hand path dichotomies, arguing for instance that the colour black should not necessarily have any associations with evil.

  • If what I heard here is correct, I don’t think the OTO is going down the correct path. All they’ve done is replaced with dogma with DOGMA, and priests with people who imagine themselves high and mighty. The point is surely to throw off dogma? I’ve been a reader of Crowley for many years. Don’t need an organisation to tell me how to understand it, or subject myself to their rule. I am oddly enough a freemason, there is nothing connecting freemasonry to these degrees or even to the work of Crowley, other than he may or may not at one point have been a mason. Do as though wilt, does not mean do as you are told…
